A signature role, written by Jane Wagner, was in the Broadway show titled The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe won her the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play. She won her first Emmy Awards in 1974 for writing and producing her own television special, Lily. She won a Grammy for her 1972 comedy album This is a Recording, which she followed up with And That’s the Truth. She starred in many television shows including Saturday Night Live, Murphy Brown, Sesame Street, Carol Burnett, The West Wing, The Simpsons, The X-Files, and the award winning The Lily Tomlin Special, She currently stars on the series Grace and Frankie as Frankie Bergstein, a role which has garnered her four consecutive Emmy nominations.
