And including artistic teenager and future rock n roll poet Lou Reed as a graduating senior, and pictured with what looks like a folk ish? Lou Reed was the lead guitarist, singer and principal songwriter for the rock band The Velvet Undergrond and also had a solo career that spanned five decades. The Velvet Underground are regarded as one of the most influential bands in the history, and are considered a seminal avant garde voice in rock music. Sunday Morning, Venus in Furs , Heroin , I’ll Be Your Mirror , All Tomorrow’s. I’m Waiting for My Man. After leaving the group in 1970, Reed released twenty solo studio albums. His second, Transformer, was produced by David Bowie and arranged by Mick Ronson and brought Reed recognition, airwaves giving play to his song. Walk on the Wild Side. Other albums included Berlin, Rock n Roll Animal, Sally Can’t Dance, Metal Machine Music, Coney Island Baby, Magic and Loss, The Blue Mask, New York, Set The Twilight Reeling , and others. He collaborated on an album with Velvets John Cale titled Songs for Drella which was a tribute to their former mentor Andy Warhol. Reed’s distinctive deadpan voice, poetic lyrics and experimental guitar playing are trademarks of the artist.
